Difficulty: Moderately ChallengingInstructionsThings You'll Need:
- Crankshaft holding tool J 38122-A
- New crankshaft bolt
- Wrench
- Remove the Oil Pump
- Step 1
Drive your vehicle up onto ramps or lifts so you have room to work as you pull out the oil pump. You could also use a jack, but make sure you brace the front wheels so they don't roll. In addition, set the emergency break firmly into position so the car doesn't roll.
- Step 2
Take the left front wheel off and remove the engine splash shield and drive belt.
- Step 3
Prevent the crankshaft from rotating while you loosen its balancer bolt by using the holding tool J 38122-A.
- Step 4
Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt, throw it away, and then take the balancer out. Continue disassembly by removing the drive belt tensioner, the water pump-to-front cover bolts, the rest of the front cover-to-engine bolts and the cover and gasket.
- Step 5
Finish the disassembly by removing or disconnecting the oil pressure relief valve, the oil pump cover and the oil pump gears.
Install the New Oil Pump - Step 1
Insert your new oil pump and install the oil pump gears and the oil pump cover. You want to tighten the bolts to 53 in-lb. Connect the oil pressure relief valve and tighten its plug to 30 ft-lb.
- Step 2
Reassemble the front engine cover by installing the front cover gasket, cover and cover-to-engine bolts.
- Step 3
Install the water pump-to-front cover bolts and tighten all the bolts to 15 ft-lb. After this, put on the drive belt tensioner and tighten that bolt to 33 ft-lb. Put the crankshaft balancer and bolt on.
- Step 4
Grab the crankshaft holding tool J 38122-A once again to keep the crankshaft from rotating while you tighten the new crankshaft balancer bolt to 74 ft-lb plus 75 degrees.
- Step 5
Put the engine splash shield, the drive belt and the front wheel back on. Start the engine and check for leaks on the parts you installed.
