How to Drop the Oil Pan in a Geo Tracker

Start by running the Tracker for at least 10 minutes to heat the engine enough to circulate the oil throughout. Park the car on a level surface and one that is secure. Use a jack and jack stands to raise the vehicle off the ground and support it. The jack instructions will provide you with information on how to use it properly.

Open the hood of the car and find the engine cap, which is found on the right side of the vehicle's engine. Twist off to allow for pressure release. Drain the oil out of the oil pan by placing an oil drip pan under the vehicle's oil pan. The oil pan is located about halfway between the tires under the engine.

Pull the oil plug on the back of the oil pan, using a wrench to unscrew and remove it. Let all the oil drain into the oil drip pan. Remove and discard the oil, or if it is still good in quality, put aside to refill later.

Go back to under the hood of the Tracker and located the battery (on the front, right hand side of the vehicle). Use a wrench to unscrew and remove the bolt holding the negative battery cable in place.

Remove the skid plate and differential on the vehicle if it is equipped with them. Remove the crankshaft position sensor, located on the oil pan and the left transmission stiffener bracket, if the car is equipped with it. Follow this by removing the flywheel access panel. Follow that order when removing each.

Disconnect each of the bolts that line the edge of the oil pan. These bolts hold the oil pan in place so as you remove them, support the oil pan with one hand for safety. The oil pan will drop off at this point.
