How to Drop the Oil Pan in a Dodge Intrepid

Start the car's engine and allow it to run for about 5 minutes. This heats the oil stored in the vehicle's engine enough to pump it back to the oil pan. Turn off the vehicle and park it somewhere secure to work on.

Ventilate and release the pressure in the oil system by removing the oil cap. The oil cap is located under the hood, on the right side of the vehicle, and is often labeled. Set aside. Place an oil drip pan under the oil pan, located under the car, directly at the bottom of the engine. The oil pan is a large pan shaped metal device held in place by a number of bolts.

Pull the oil plug, located at the back of the oil pan, towards the rear of the car. The oil will stream out the whole into the drip pan you've placed under it. Allow the oil to drain for at least 10 minutes or until it stops streaming.

Look under the hood of the vehicle to locate the battery system, right at the front of the vehicle. Remove the negative battery cable using a wrench to loosen the bolts holding it in place.

Disconnect the dipstick and housing from the vehicle, from under the hood of the car. The dipstick is located next to the oil cap and simply needs to be pulled out. To remove the housing, unscrew it from its position slowly.

Climb under the Intrepid to begin removing other pieces of the vehicle, including the structural collar at the rear of the oil pan, the transmission housing and the engine oil cooler lines that room from the oil pan. These are located on the oil pan itself. Remove each using a wrench.

Remove the oil pan mounting bolts by using a wrench to disconnect them. The oil pan and gaskets will fall off once you remove all bolts.
