How to Drop the Oil Pan in a Cadillac Escalade

To remove the Cadillac Escalade oil pan in models dating from 1999 through 2006, follow these simple steps. You may need to do this for repair or replacement. The oil pan houses the oil when it isn't in use by the engine. Over time, wear and tear can lead to replacement needs.

Difficulty:
Moderately EasyInstructionsThings You'll Need:
  • Car jack and stands
  • Drip pan
  • Wrench or socket set
  1. Step 1

Locate the oil pan in the Cadillac Escalade. It is a larger sized metal pan located by the radiator under the Escalade. Once you have found its location, turn on the engine and allow it to warm up to normal running temperature, then turn it off.

  2. Step 2

Jack up the car using only safe car jacks and stands. Use the car jack to raise the vehicle and the stands to hold it up. Follow all directions provided by the car jack and stand manufacturers when using them.

  3. Step 3

Open the oil cap located under the hood of the Cadillac and remove the dipstick. The oil cap is located on the left hand side in the middle of the engine. It is a hand sized twist off cap. The dipstick is located nearby. Both are labeled.

  4. Step 4

Slide under the vehicle. Place an oil drip pan under the vehicle's oil pan, then remove the oil pan plug to allow all oil from the pan to drain out into the drip pan.

  5. Step 5

Remove and disconnect all connecting devices to the oil pan but do not remove the oil pan bolts yet. In the most common engine in the Escalade, 5.7L Engines, you'll need to disconnect the negative battery cable, the transmission and engine oil lines, the under body protector shields, the oil filter and adapter, the exhaust crossover pipe and the front driveshaft and axles.

  6. Step 6

Loosen the bolts to the oil pan by removing two diagonally across from each other, then the other two, keeping one hand in place to hold the pan up while you remove the oil pan bolts.

  7. Step 7

Take note of the gasket that should also drop off. Remember to completely clean the Escalade's frame where the oil pan connects thoroughly before replacing the oil pan.
