How to Replace the PCV Valve in a Pontiac Grand Prix

When working properly, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve controls the amount of pressure that builds up in your engine. If the PCV valve malfunctions or has a clog, your engine will start to run rough, especially while idling. You can easily replace a PCV valve in your Pontiac Grand Prix.

Difficulty:
Moderately EasyInstructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the PCV valve in your Pontiac Grand Prix. The PCV valve in the Grand Prix 3.8L engine is mounted in the rear section of the intake manifold. You'll find the valve attached to a hose.

  2. Step 2

Remove the PCV valve in order to check if it needs replacement. To remove, you pull the valve out of the grommet. Also remove the hose attached to it.

  3. Step 3

Shake the PCV valve. To test functionality, you're going to listen for a rattling sound inside of the valve. If you don't hear the rattle, then you need to replace the Grand Prix's PCV valve.

  4. Step 4

Purchase the OEM PCV valve replacement for your Grand Prix. You can order a PCV valve for Grand Prix models manufactured between 1988 and 2005 through ThePartsBin.com.

  5. Step 5

Push the new valve into the grommet that held the old PCV valve. Once it snaps into place, you can attach the hose. Restart your car to see if this solved the problem of your engine running rough.
