Difficulty: ChallengingInstructionsThings You'll Need:
- Standard mechanic's tools
- Shop rags
- Remove the Intake Manifold
- Step 1
Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system and drain the cooling system.
- Step 2
Disconnect the air intake duct, the water bypass hose, the cables to the throttle and cruise control, the brake booster hose and the evaporative emission (EVAP) hose. Label the hoses as they're disconnected
- Step 3
Remove the intake manifold cover and the strut brace. Loosen the intake manifold nuts and bolts. Start in the center and move outward while working in a criss-cross pattern. Remove the nuts and bolts.
- Step 4
Check and disconnect all vacuum hoses. Lift out the intake manifold and throttle body as a single unit.
- Step 5
Inspect the intake manifold carefully for any damage or cracks. Replace any parts that are damaged.
Install the Intake Manifold - Step 1
Transfer the necessary parts from the old manifold to the new one. Discard the damaged manifold.
- Step 2
Set the intake manifold in place and fasten it to 16 foot pounds. Position the upper intake manifold cover and tighten the fasteners to 108 inch pounds.
- Step 3
Tighten the TCS acutator bolts and then the strut brace bolts. Use 16 foot pounds torque. Work in reverse of the removal process to install the manifold.
- Step 4
Reconnect the air intake duct, the water bypass hose, the cables to the throttle and cruise control, the brake booster hose and the evaporative emission (EVAP) hose. Verify all connections.
- Step 5
Verify that all vacuum hoses are in good condition. Reconnect the hoses.
- Step 6
Refill the coolant in the cooling system. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
