    Remove the Exhaust Manifold
  1. Step 1

Disconnect the negative cable on the battery. Locate the front heated oxygen sensor electrical connector and remove both the connector and the sensor.

  2. Step 2

Loosen the exhaust manifold cover retaining screws and remove them. Lift off the cover.

  3. Step 3

Remove the exhaust manifold bracket. Take off the lower heat shield. Apply penetrating oil to the exhaust manifold bolts and allow it to soak in for several minutes.

  4. Step 4

Remove the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold in place. Lift the exhaust manifold from the engine and discard the gasket.

  5. Step 5

Clean the mating surfaces to remove any gasket material, dirt and carbon deposits. Wipe the surfaces with solvent. Check for damage.

  6. Install the Exhaust Manifold
  7. Step 1

Set the new gasket on the mating surface of the cylinder heat. Install the exhaust manifold over the gasket.

  8. Step 2

Put the retaining bolts in place and finger-tighten them. Torque the bolts, working out from the center, in three passes to 33 to 39 foot pounds.

  9. Step 3

Install the remaining components in the reverse order of their removal. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

  10. Step 4

Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes. Check for exhaust leaks and proper engine operation.
