How to Replace a Power Mirror in a Mazda 626

The Mazda 626's complex power mirror construction makes it a do-it-yourself replacement for a owner with experience. The project only requires a few basic tools for all model years.

    Remove Old Mirror
  1. Step 1

    Raise the door glass with the rear edge at approximately 3 1/2 inches higher than the completely lowered position. Take the regulator handle off if window is manually operated.

  2. Step 2

    Take the screws out, and remove the fasteners that holds the Mazda's door trim panel. Use your hands or a cloth-covered screwdriver to remove the trim.

  3. Step 3

    Pull the door trim up to dislodge the hooks holding it in place.

  4. Step 4

    Disconnect the power window connector, small light and trunk lid-opener switch connectors.

  5. Step 5

    Peel the corner of the screen back near the interior mirror assembly.

  6. Step 6

    Unplug the mirror connector. Remove the nuts to free the old mirror from your Mazda 626.

  7. Install New Mirror
  8. Step 1

    Put the new mirror in place. Attach the nuts to secure it. Restore the power connection.

  9. Step 2

    Put the screen cover on the 626 back in place.

  10. Step 3

    Install the interior door trim panel in the reverse order.

  11. Step 4

    Connect the negative battery cable. Check you power mirror to make sure it functions.
