How to Replace a Fuel Injector in a Toyota Camry

Determine which fuel injector your Toyota Camry will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made from 1982 to 1986 have a 1.8L or 2.0L engine. Models built from 1987 to 1993 have a 1.8L, 2.0L or 2.5L engine and 1994 to 1998 models can be equipped with a 1.8L, 2.0L or 2.2L engine.

Look at late models of the Toyota Camry. Models made from 1997 to 2001 can be equipped with a 2.2L or 3.0L engine, and 2002 to 2006 models can have a 2.4L, 3.0L or 3.3L engine. The current generation of the Toyota Camry has been available since 2007 and is offered with a 2.4L or 3.5L engine.

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench and relieve the fuel system pressure. Remove the air intake assembly and the engine cover. Use a socket wrench to detach the fuel tube assembly and lift out the fuel delivery pipe with the injectors still attached. Pull the fuel injectors out of the fuel rail and discard the old O-rings.

Coat the new O-rings with gasoline and install the new fuel injectors into the fuel rail while ensuring they can turn freely in place. Use a torque wrench to tighten the fuel rail retaining bolts 15 foot pounds.

Complete the rest of the installation by reversing the removal process and start the engine to check for fuel leaks.
