How to Replace a Fuel Injector in a Mitsubishi Eclipse

Determine which fuel injector your Mitsubishi Eclipse will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models of the Mitsubishi Eclipse made from 1995 to 1999 offer choices of 2.0L or 2.4L engines and models made from 2000 to 2005 can have a 2.4L or 3.0L engine. Models made after 2005 can be equipped with a 2.4L or 3.8L engine.

Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable a socket wrench. Drain the engine coolant and remove the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the accelerator cable and detach the electrical connectors for the throttle position sensor and idle air control motor. Disconnect the water hose.

Remove the retaining bolts for the throttle body with a socket wrench and detach the throttle body from its mounting. Discard the gasket. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation valve hose and unplug the electrical connectors for the ignition coil, fuel injector and ignition failure sensor.

Disconnect the high pressure fuel line. Remove the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel rail assembly with a socket wrench. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel rail and discard the O-rings.

Install the new fuel injector with new O-rings and gaskets by reversing the removal procedure. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
