- Fuel injector kit
- Pliers
- Socket wrench set
- Step 1
Determine which fuel injector your Dodge Ram will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. A Dodge Ram made after 2001 may be equipped with a 3.7L, 4.7L, 5.7L Hemi V8, 5.9L Magnum V8, 5.9L Cummins diesel, 6.7L Cummins diesel, 8.0L Magnum or 8.3L Viper engine.
- Step 2
Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Disconnect the mounting bolts for the fuel rail with a socket wrench and remove the fuel rail from the engine compartment.
- Step 3
Disconnect the retaining clips the hold the fuel injectors to the fuel rail and remove the fuel injectors. Discard the O-rings.
- Step 4
Install the new fuel injectors into the fuel rail and apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the new O-rings. Replace the retaining clips to hold the new fuel injectors in place and mount the fuel rail into the engine. Use a socket wrench to tighten the mounting bolts on the fuel rail. Connect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.
- Step 5
Use a socket wrench to tighten the mounting bolts on the fuel rail. Connect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.
- Step 6
Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
