How to Replace a Fuel Injector in a Dodge Durango

Determine which fuel injector your Dodge Durango will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made from 1998 to 2003 have a 4.7L PowerTech, 5.2L Magnum, or 5.9L Magnum engine. Models made after 2004 will have a 3.7L Powertech, 4.7L Powertech or 5.7L Hemi.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the air duct at the throttle body air box with a socket wrench. Remove the mounting bolts that attach the air resonator mounting bracket to the throttle body. Release the fuel line latch clip and remove the fuel line from the fuel rail. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the throttle body.

Record the positions of the electrical connectors for each fuel injector for future reference. Disconnect them from the fuel injector by pushing the red slider away from the injector while pressing the tab. Remove the electrical connectors for the throttle body sensors and the ignition coils.

Remove the four fuel rail mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Take out the fuel injectors by pulling them while gently rocking them back and forth until they clear the cylinder head holes. You may then remove the fuel rail with the injectors still attached. Release the retaining clips for the fuel injectors.

Install the new fuel injectors by reversing the removal procedure. Lubricate the injector O-ring seals with a drop of clean engine oil prior to installation.
