How to Replace a Fuel Injector in a Chrysler Town &

The Chrysler Town & Country has a fuel injector that mixes fuel with air. This technology almost completely replaced carburetors in the late 1980s and its programmable firmware allows the same hardware to be used with different fuels. A fuel injector is only a nozzle and a valve; it still requires a pump to inject the fuel into the engine.

Difficulty:
Moderately ChallengingInstructionsThings You'll Need:
  • Fuel injector kit
  • Socket wrench set
  • Torque wrench
  1. Step 1

Determine which fuel injector your Chrysler Town & Country will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made in 1990 had a 3.3L EGA engine, models made after 1990 may have a 3.3L EGA or 3.8L EGH engine with a 4.0L engine also added for post-2007 models.

  2. Step 2

Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Remove the upper intake manifold and disconnect the quick connect fittings to detach the fuel lines from the chassis tube.

  3. Step 3

Remove the fuel rail bolts with a socket wrench and take out the fuel rail with the injectors still attached. Rotate the injectors and pull them out of the fuel rail. Discard the old O-rings.

  4. Step 4

Install the new fuel injectors with new O-rings. Use a torque wrench to tighten the fuel rail bolts to 16 foot pounds. Connect the quick connect fittings to attach the fuel lines to the chassis tube and replace the upper intake manifold. Attach the negative battery cable.

  5. Step 5

Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
