How to Replace Windshield-Washer Tubing in a Toyota Corolla

The popular Toyota Corolla debuted in 1966, and it has quickly become one of the top-selling automobiles worldwide. If you happen to own one of these cars, you need to know basic maintenance, including fixing clogged or corroded windshield-washer tubing. It's an easy and cheap fix to make.

Difficulty:
Moderately EasyInstructionsThings You'll Need:
  • Pin or sewing needle (optional)
  • Windshield-washer tubing
  • Hose cutters
  • Vacuum connectors
  1. Step 1

Determine if your windshield-washer tubing is clogged. Occasionally the little holes on the ball of the sprayer become clogged from washer fluid build-up or from hard water. You wouldn't need to replace the tubing if this is the case. Simply use a pin or sewing needle to poke a hole to eliminate any debris.

  2. Step 2

Purchase windshield-washer tubing from a car parts store. The tubing might also be referred to as vacuum tubing. You don't need a specific parts number. If you need assistance, ask for help at the store.

  3. Step 3

Locate the old washer tubing, which is near the windshield washer fluid reservoir. You can find that beneath the power steering fluid reservoir on the left side of the engine compartment.

  4. Step 4

Remove the tubing. Be cautious around the vacuum connectors. If you plan to reuse them, try not to break or disfigure them.

  5. Step 5

Hold up the old windshield-washer tubing if you plan to replace the entire section. Place the new tubing next to the old, using the old as a guide to the length your Corolla needs. Use a hose cutter to cut enough of the new tubing to fit your Toyota Corolla.

  6. Step 6

Place the new tubing in your Corolla. Use the old connectors, or insert the new ones, and ensure the tubing doesn't interfere with any other engine parts. When closing the hood, be extra cautious to make sure the tubing doesn't get bent.
