How to Replace Windshield-Washer Tubing in a Oldsmobile Aler

If you've noticed your the windshield in your Oldsmobile Alero isn't getting any washer fluid, yet the washer reservoir tank is full, you might need to replace the tubing. The tubing is what moves the fluid out of your tank and onto your windshield. The instructions below are for older model Alero vehicles.

Difficulty:
Moderately ChallengingInstructions
  1. Step 1

Buy replacement tubing or tubing/valve assemblies for your Alero. You can use a one-size-fits-all assembly for the Alero.

  2. Step 2

Find the Alero's windshield washer reservoir tank on the driver's side front, directly behind the headlight and to the right of the battery. You may need to remove the tire and front quarter panel to get to the washer tank and tubing.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the tubing at the windshield side first and drain the remaining fluid into a separate container for disposal. Use caution when working on this step as leaking battery acid may have caused the tubing failure.

  4. Step 4

Detach the tubing from the bottom end of the reservoir. Jack up the car to reach this connection unless you have removed the front quarter panel.

  5. Step 5

Connect the new tubing to the washer reservoir, then the windshield outlets.

  6. Step 6

Fill the reservoir with fresh washer fluid and test the wipers. You might notice that it takes a few minutes to prime the new tubing before you see washer fluid coming out onto the windshield.
