How to Replace Windshield-Washer Tubing in a Nissan Maxima

A clean windshield is important for safe driving. If you've found that the windshield in your Nissan Maxima isn't getting fluid and there's still fluid in the washer reservoir, you might need to replace your tubing. The tubing and valve assemblies are what supply the washer fluid to the windshield. Instructions below are for Maxima model years 1996 and later.

Difficulty:
Moderately ChallengingInstructions
  1. Step 1

Use replacement tubing or tubing/valve assemblies specifically made for the Nissan Maxima. The one-size-fits-all assembly won't fit properly.

  2. Step 2

Locate the Nissan Maxima's windshield washer reservoir tank. It's on the passenger's side front, directly in front of the coolant tank and opposite the battery. You may need to remove the passenger front tire and quarter panel to reach the tubing connections.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the tubing at the windshield side first and drain the remaining fluid into a separate container for disposal.

  4. Step 4

Unhook the tubing from the bottom end of the reservoir. If you didn't remove the tire and quarter panel, you'll need to be underneath the Maxima to reach this connection. Flush the reservoir with a warm water rinse if you notice the reservoir is especially dirty.

  5. Step 5

Connect the new tubing to the washer reservoir, then the windshield outlets.

  6. Step 6

Fill the reservoir with fresh washer fluid and test the wipers. You might notice that it takes a few minutes to prime the new tubing before you see washer fluid coming out onto the windshield.
