How to Replace Windshield-Washer Tubing in a Mazda6

Replacing the tubing or tubing/valve assembly on your Mazda6 is a job you can do yourself. The tubing supplies fluid from your washer reservoir up to the windshield and it can become corroded over time. These instructions apply to later model years only.

Difficulty:
Moderately ChallengingInstructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the Mazda6's windshield washer reservoir. It's directly behind the passenger headlight and beside the oil dipstick. Because of the Mazda6's sportier engine, you may need to remove the front quarter panel and tire to get to the washer tank and tubing.

  2. Step 2

Make note of the tubing connections. You'll see two connections, one from the reservoir holding the washer fluid and another to the windshield.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the tubing at the windshield side first and drain the fluid from the reservoir into a container for disposal. The washer fluid can contain dissolved pieces of tubing or valves.

  4. Step 4

Remove the other end of the tubing connected to the washer fluid reservoir. If you haven't removed the tire and quarter panel, you may need a jack to raise the Mazda6 high enough to reach this connection.

  5. Step 5

Connect the new tubing to the washer reservoir, then the windshield outlets. Use replacement tubing and or tubing assemblies specifically designed for the Mazda6.

  6. Step 6

Pour fresh washer fluid into the reservoir and test the tubing. It may take a few minutes to prime the new tubing before you see washer fluid spray onto the windshield.
