Nissan KA24E 240SX Oil Pump Installation

The exact location of a Nissan's oil pump varies depending on the exact model. If you have a Nissan 240SX with a KA24E engine and need to install a new oil pump, you must open up the distributor to remove the old pump first and then install the new one. It must be installed in a specific position, and the engine valves must all be closed in order to install it.

    Removing the Old Pump
  1. Step 1

Disconnect the negative cable from the Nissan's battery. Drain the oil pan and properly dispose of the old oil.

  2. Step 2

Turn the crankshaft to where the Number One piston is located at the top dead center (TDC) compression stroke. This ensures all the valves are closed. Loosen the retaining bolt on the crankshaft pulley and use the pulley to turn the crankshaft.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the distributor cap from the engine. Mark with chalk the distributor rotor's position on the distributor base. Remove the splash shield.

  4. Step 4

Remove the oil pump body and the drive spindle assembly from the distributor. This assembly includes the drive spindle on one end of the pump and the pump cover on the other end. Disconnect the drive spindle from the pump and dispose of the gasket and seal between the spindle and pump.

  5. Installation
  6. Step 1

Fill the oil pump's housing with 10W-40 engine oil. Align the drive spindle's punch mark with the hole in the oil pump. Install the spindle onto the pump with a new gasket and seal.

  7. Step 2

Install the pump and drive spindle assembly into the distributor. Double-check to see that the Number One piston is at TDC at the compression stroke. Make sure the drive spindle's tip fits securely in the distributor shaft notch and the distributor rotor is pointing to the chalk mark made earlier.

  8. Step 3

Reinstall the splash shield and then the distributor cap.Fill the crankcase with fresh oil to its proper level.

  9. Step 4

Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the Nissan's engine, check the ignition timing and look for any leaks.
