Difficulty: ModerateInstructionsThings You'll Need:
- Windshield wiper motor
- Crescent wrench
- Open-end wrench
- Screwdriver
- Clean cloth or towel
- Socket wrench set
- Step 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery of your Chevy truck with an open-end wrench. Place the negative cable off to the side where it will not come into contact with any pieces of metal, causing sparks.
- Step 2
Remove both wiper arm blades from the point that they connect with the truck by using a screwdriver to detach the arms. Place the screwdriver into the spring clip and pull up to loosen the wiper blades.
- Step 3
Lift the hood and remove the metal cover plate that sits between the windshield and hood with a socket wrench. Put the cover plate in a safe place along with the bolts that secured it.
- Step 4
Locate and disconnect the wiper blade transmission that sits below the cover plate and is attached to the wiper motor with one bolt. Use a socket wrench to disconnect the transmission unit.
- Step 5
Disconnect the electrical connectors and wiper fluid hoses from the windshield wiper motor and remove the bolt that is holding the wiper motor in place. Replace the wiper motor and reattach to the vehicle frame with the bolt.
- Step 6
Attach the electrical connectors and hoses to the new motor and attach the transmission to the new motor with a bolt. Reattach the metal cover plate to the vehicle frame with bolts and close the hood.
- Step 7
Attach the wiper arm blades to the motor arms by pulling the clip back with a screwdriver and sliding the arms into place. Reattach the negative battery cable to battery and then test the wiper motor by turning on the ignition switch and turning on the wiper blades. Once you have verified they're working, turn off the wiper switch and shut off the ignition switch.
