How to Change a Battery on a Saturn Wagon


The battery in your Saturn wagon performs a crucial function in its operation, which is to store the electricity created by the alternator and discharge it to the starter when you need to start the vehicle. If the battery goes dead, then your wagon won't start; therefore you won't be able to go anywhere. Fortunately, changing the battery on your car isn't a difficult process and can be done in about 15 minutes.

  • Open-end wrench set
  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Replacement battery
  1. Step 1

    Pop the hood and locate the battery. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery using an open-end wrench. This terminal is black with a (-) symbol on it.

  2. Step 2

    Disconnect the positive terminal on the battery using an open-end wrench. This terminal is red with a (+) symbol on it.

  3. Step 3

    Unbolt the battery tie down from the vehicle using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Lift the battery up and out of the way.

  4. Step 4

    Place the replacement battery in the tray and secure it using the tie down and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

  5. Step 5

    Reconnect the battery terminals to the battery, doing the positive terminal first then the negative terminal, using an open-end wrench.
