How to Replace the Fuses in a Honda Prelude

Between 1979 and 2002 the Honda Prelude was a popular car in a few different models. No matter which one you own, a blown fuse can occur. When this happens, you can replace it yourself for little cost and effort. This process is relatively the same for all models and years.

Difficulty:
Moderately EasyInstructionsThings You'll Need:
  • Fuse puller
  • Fuse of same rating
  1. Step 1

Turn off the car. Locate the two fuse boxes, one under the hood in the engine compartment passenger's side and the other underneath the dashboard on the driver's side of the car.

  2. Step 2

Push the tab down to open the engine compartment fuse box. Turn the knob on the passenger compartment to open it.

  3. Step 3

Read the inside cover of each fuse box to find the location of the fuse you must replace. As an example, a 1997 Honda Prelude taillight fuse is in slot 10.

  4. Step 4

Use the fuse puller in the interior fuse box to remove the fuse. Look at the wire in the middle to verify it's melted or broken and no longer usable.

  5. Step 5

Replace with a fuse of the same rating, snapping it into the appropriate fuse slot. Read the inside cover to find out the rating. The 1997 Prelude's taillight uses a 15-amp fuse.

  6. Step 6

Close the fuse box door and restart your Prelude. Verify the new fuse works and the issue is resolved.
