How to Replace the Fuses in a Chevy Cobalt

The Chevy Cobalt is a relatively new model that's only been in production since 2005, so it hasn't changed much since its inception. A fuse can blow at any time, but you can replace it quickly and inexpensively yourself. Here's how to change the blown fuse in a Cobalt in 30 minutes or less.

  • New fuse of same rating
  • Fuse puller
  1. Step 1

    Turn off your Cobalt before you take out a fuse. Locate the two fuse boxes in the Cobalt. One fuse box is on the passenger side floor console and the other is in the engine compartment under the hood on the driver's side. Read the inside of each cover to find out which fuses are in each box.

  2. Step 2

    Remove the fuse you suspect is blown with the fuse puller. For example, in a 2006 Chevy Cobalt the interior lights are controlled by the fuse in slot 27. Verify you have the right fuse by looking for a burnt out portion of the wire inside the fuse.

  3. Step 3

    Replace the fuse with one of the same rating. The interior lights referenced in Step 2 use a 10 amp fuse.

  4. Step 4

    Close the fuse box and restart the car. Verify the new fuse is working properly.
