1998 Mercury Sable Excessive Rear Brake Wear

Four door sedan with 24V 3.0 liter V6 with 95,000 mi. Automatic transmission with overdrive.

I have replaced the rear brakes twice now in last year. The brake pads, drums and springs. The new drums were turned before using. The brakes are making metalic noise again so I am sure they need to be reworked again.

What would cause premature rear brake pad wear? Should I be looking at proportioning valve or anti-lock system? Emergency brake cable appears to be OK and does not get used that often. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks How are the rear pad wearing? Are they wearing unevenly? Are the caliper slide pins free?Car Repair Talk's forum.
