topped off power steering fluid with brake fluid dot3...

I topped off my 99 volvo s-80's power steering fluid with dot-3 brake fluid by mistake...should i immediately flush the steering fluid tank and start over? Any info appreciated. Yes. A new power steering rack on one of those cars is very expensive, and I would be very carful about what I do to it. Why did you need to top off the fluid anyways? Did you have a leak somewhere? I have had my truck for a year and a half now, and the fluid level has never changed. I have no idea how old the pump is, but it looks original as in 1976. On my sister's '83 Mustang, the return line is leaking a bit and we have to top off every 1500-3000 miles or so, just haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. Oh my... Yes you do need to flush the hell out of your power steering system.

Get that brake fluid out of there or you will be replacing many expensive parts for your power stering system in short order. Well, my old 87' nissian pulsar has had a steering leak since bought in 97'(did not no much about cars @ time of purchase) anyway, After U flush out the brake fluid out of your steering, U could use transmission fluid in place of steering fluid...the regular steering fluid never did much for my car, because it still has the leak, I get more for less, until I can replace the whole thing...It cost less, and U get more...Just a suggestion..SamanthaCar Repair Talk's forum.
