brake light/accelerator pedal problems 93 Nissan

I am having 2 problems with my 1993 Nissan Altima SE:

1. my brake light comes on when it is cold outside. The parking brake is not engaged and the light has not come on in previous years. I do live in a cold part of the country. What might be causing this? The car runs fine, I can tell that the crake is not on-I rarely even use it. All of a sudden one morning I went to leave my house and the light was on.

2. Tonight, my car decided that the accelerator pedal was not going to work. I was on level ground and pressed on the accelerator pedal and there was nothing. I was not in Neutral. Even when I put the car in Neutral there is no reving of the engine when the accelerator is pressed. Also, I noticed that when the brake is pressed and released there is a clicking sound. This clicking sound started after the accelerator didn't work. Do you know what might be going on?

When your car warms up on the inside (you've run the heater for a while) do the brake lights go off? There may be a spring that has lost tension causing it to not return to its full length when not under load, and the problem may be compounded by the fact that things shrink when the get cold. This could cause the brake light switch to engage. This is a cheap part and should be easy to replace, unless it's in a Ford, so go ahead and buy the part. As for the gas pedal, you probably broke the cable also a cheap and easy part to replace.Car Repair Talk's forum.
