There's a website that hooks you up with car repairs...
Has anyone heard of it?
Here's one plan:
Standard Package offers brake repair coverage for $149 / axle per year, and covers 100% of the following parts and labor as long as your coverage is active:
Brake pads or shoes
Rotors or drums
Calipers
Labor
Limited-lifetime warranty on parts
Sounds pretty good if the Rotors and Pads are included for $ 149.00 for one axle. well, i never heard of this one, but i see some problems with it.
first off, they aint saying theyll replace rotors or drums. im betting that theyll resurface them like we mentioned in your previos thread and only replace them if needed.
allso it dont cover other parts like master cylinder, lines and hoses, or abs parts. if those are needed theyll cost extra.
and u can be sure theyll use the cheapest parts they can get away with. that means not only will u have to get the brakes worked on more often cause they wont last long, but u wont get the best performance from the brakes.
like u mentioned before, how can they make money doing this? easy. a proper brake job with decent parts should last a few years. u could spend sevral hundred dollars on this before u ever need work done. this is the same thing as 'extended warrantys'. they make a ton of money on those and most of the time are a bad deal. for u, not them.
and what if u dont like the shop they send u to? u cant go someplace else cause your locked in to there place.
my advice is to get the brakes done 'as needed' at a competant shop, and make sure they use good quality parts. over the long haul itll cost u less, and the brakes will last longer and work better. They state it is $149.00 per axle per year. So that is $300.00 per year and you will not need brakes that often. You will wind up way behind on the money. Rear brakes outlast the front by at least 2 to one. An average driver should go at least 30k on brakes(front) and 60k on rears. I have 48k on my truck and have well over half the pad material left. So it is your call. As connie stated, having the brakes repaired as needed is probably cheaper than that site.Car Repair Talk's forum.
