1988 Toyota Camry brake problem.

My brake lights stopped working. I checked the bulbs and the fuses. I talked to a couple other people and they are telling me its the switch on the pedal. How hard would this be to fix myself or should I take it to a shop? I know you say you have checked the bulbs, but you should replace one of them with a new bulb first just to rule out bad bulbs. make sure you get the same part number of bulb, and not one that looks like it is the same. These cars can be finicky when it comes to bulb types. And yes, I have seen 4 bad bulbs all at once...probably from a voltage spike due to an alternator charging problem.

If the bulb does not fix the problem you are probably better off taking the car to the shop for diagnosis and repair.Car Repair Talk's forum.
