1970 vw bug brake lights don't come on

The bug has been sitting for 2 years. now no brake light. tail lights and blinkers work fine. I checked the passenger side and the brake light had no power. I check my vw book for the correct fues and check it for power and it didn't have power with out the key on. and that is for the wipers that work. Not sure where else to check. It has been leaking water inside not sure where from yet, just found that today. I think it has had problems with the lights before i owned the car. that was because corrosion on a bolt but have any idea where. It had all brake lines and the master cylinder replaced one year before it was parked. If the fuses look ok, check for power at the brake light switch... you should have power on one side(usually "hot" at all times for the stop lights), then when you mash the brake pedal, it should go thru the switch.... usually then to the turn signal switch... unless its got separate stop and turn bulbs...(so the blinker can override the brake lights when you stop to turn).... then on to the rear bulbs... then to ground(gotta have a good ground as well). Hope this gives you a little start?Car Repair Talk's forum.
