It is an Automatic transission, I can't seem to shift the car out of park unless I use the slot beside the shifter to put it in gear.
Also, the brake lights do not turn on when the brakes are pumped.
After reading this forum, I've realized that it seems to be a brake light switch problem, but when I went to the auto supply store, they looked at me funny and said "Brake light switch?" and proceeded to tell me that it sounded like a neutral safety switch problem. Are these two the same items or totaly different parts?
Thanks for your help You have two separate problems and two different parts are required. Make sure you can locate each part on the car before trying to replace it.
It is possible a faulty brake switch may be the culprit for both problems. Start with that first. Locate the switch behind the brake pedal and see if you can remove it. If so, replace. Then check back here. I would say you are right Daewoo70, you need a brake switch. I do not see any reason buying a neutral safely switch from your description of the problem at hand. These are two Daewoo brake light switches
With cruise control
Without cruise control(funky looking switch)
Thanks for the photo of what the brake release switch looks like.
Found where it was positioned and I will try to remove it later tonite.

I replaced the brake light switch & everything is working fine.
If I ever run into any further automotive troubles, this is the first place I'll check.
Cheers & have a wonderful weekend. Glad to be of service.
Cheers. You have no idea how much this helped me. I have been having the same problem with my 2001 daewoo leganza. Brake lights out and not shifting out of park. I had heard it might be the brake light switch, and upon trying to look into it, everyone is like "do this" "do that". They gave directions but not a picture. That picture really helps alot. Thanks a bunch! i have (i think) the same issue with my car. daewoo lanos 2000.
i bought a new brake switch and still no luck.
Where do i find the neutral safety switch? It would be much better for you if you start a new thread and to give a detailed problem description.
