Hey Joe, ok first off it would help if you told what the year, make, model, size engine your vehicle has! Ok, your description is problematic! First, "i come to a stop...and then try and start up again in 1st gear" means you have a stick shift! Yet, what happens when the vehicle stops?? Next, "my engine dies..then i go and turn it off" turn what off?? Hmmm, the air conditioner!?!? Lastly, "is there a leak that causes it too drain the power from the engine" A leak?? Now, since you did not give any information there is no way that anybody but you or a certified mechanic can help you! I hope you have figured it out! All A/C system increase the load on your engine. The more load, the more air you engine needs to stay running.Sounds like your engine isn't getting enough air at idle. depending on how your car controls the idle. you need to disable that specific function, then adjust the "base idle" so that the engine gets sufficient air without any other control.Car Repair Talk's forum.
