i have read some of the other posts but can't find one like mine.....
i press my a/c button and i hear a squeal when the system turns on, it hits a high and then dies out after 5-10 seconds.....my a/c still cools, but not as cold as what it did say 4 months ago.
each time the system kicks on while driving, i get a quick chirp of a squeal, not a 5 seconder like initial start up.
any ideas what i am up against.
i have not had it pressure tested/guaged/refilled/etc....a new Chrysler belt was put on about 8-10 months ago. try and re-adjust the belt... possible loose belt... bad clutch... I would try to adjust the belt first Hello andrew!
That would be my first choice, check the tightness of the belt.
You should be able to push the belt in no more than a half inch at the
longest part. Look at the top of the pulley...is the belt at the top of the
pulley, or sunk inside the pulley?
If it is sunk inside the grove on the pulley, you need a new belt.
If it's at the top, or just above, then tightening might help...don't
tighten it too tight, like a guitar string, you'll burn the belt, pulley and
bearings up. Not good.
In th Lord, Tommy If this is a 3.3L or 3.8L the automatic belt tensioner may be getting weak allowing the belt to slip briefly. Also check the alignment of the tensioner compared to the other pulleys.
If this is a 3.0L the belt tension should be adjustable.
This is all baring any problems with the A/C. check the condition of the belt too...look for cracks and/or missing sections on the grip side of the belt.
