I just bought a 2000 Chevy Malibu..... When I have the air conditioner on, I will have it so it recirculates the air, and it will switch to outside air all on it's own... and sometimes the a/c light that shows it's on, will go off all on it's own.... what causes this? It never does it the same time and sometimes it doesn't do it at all..... When these 'turn off' on their own, if youjust push the button, it comes right back on..... but why does it turn off all on it's own??? The pressures in your AC are either too high(blockage) or too low(not enough freeon or the comprssor is failing). Either way the PCM monitors the AC system and if it sees a problem it will automatically shut the AC off.
Take your car to a certified AC mechanic. I'm guessing it's the freon being too low, as I don't think it's a 'cold' as it should be... The car only has $35,000 miles on it, so I'm hoping it's not the compressor ALREADY....... Thanks for the help, I'll get it checked out!! if the car has 35,000 miles on it, you can get the dealership to do what is called a "good will" job on the car, if you sweet talk them enough.
What i would do is call general motors and tell them what is going on and that the car has less miles on it then the warranty holds and your not very happy about it. They will then ask you what is the closest dealership to you, and call them and make an appointment for you, and it will more then likly be covered under warranty.
Don't call them like you know everything. I am a shop forman at the dealership i work at, and if somone comes in, and they have a problem and there car is near the warranty, i will help them. But if they come in rasing hell... i will pop there eyes out when they see the bill.
When I purchased the car, they said there was no warranty.... I didn't get any warranty papers.... very common on malibu, replace the a/c control unit in the dash. So how hard is it to replace that a/c control unit?? and how spendy is it?? the bezel around the radio and a/c control just pulls off.then remove 7mm screws, pull it toward you and release the connectors on the back of the unit.I do not know prices but it may be a dealer only item
