1999 Dodge ram A/C problem

When replacing the evaporator core in my 1999 Ram 1500 is there any other A/C parts that needs to replaced? Any time you open the A/C system, it is recommended that you also replace the receiver-drier. You should consider replacing the expansion valve and the receiver drier.

A common problem with Chrysler A/C systems is a restricted or malfunctioning expansion valve. You will have the system apart anyway so why not replace it now?

Like Steve said I also recommend that any system that has been leaking for awhile have the receiver drier replaced also. One job of the receiver drier is to remove moisture from the system and over a period of time the drier can become saturated and loose its efficiency.

Do you plan on vacuuming and recharging the system yourself or are you going to have it done for you? After looking what is all involved in replacing the core I think it is my best interest to have a professional do the job. I appreciate both replies. I got 2 prices for the replacement both were around $700.00 but both did not mention anything about the drier. Does this sound about right? I have no idea about the price since I usually do such jobs myself. If you got two quotes that were similar, you can't expect much better. But this is a low-tech operation. Try looking for a handyman who works from his driveway. And always ask about the receiver-drier before signing off on the work.
