1995 Honda Civic a/c goes in and out

I have a 1995 Honda Civic and live in FL. It is now summer and getting hot and need to do something about this. When I get in my car in the morning and turn the air on it works just fine and blows nice cold air. However after a while I could be driving down the road and it stops blowing cold but still continues to blow so I know it not my fan or anything. After a certain amount of time it will start to blow cold again and work just fine. The car isn't overheating when the a/c is on or anything like that is just goes in and out. Scared to take it to the shop cause I dont want to know what they would say or a price. Any ideas on what this could be? I would look into a low or high pressure switch. They are cheap fixes, and probably need to be done anyway. They are about 15$ each.

Normally the low pressure switch is the one causing the problem. Does the compressor continue running after the A/C stops cooling or does the compressor disengage at these times? actually I didn't mention this in the orignal message but when the a/c does start to blow warm the engines idles higher and revs somewhat. Still think it could be the same thing? Maybe the compressor? Have you found a solution to this? My explorer is doing the exact samething....thanks Nope still haven't heard anything. Sorry I actually got it fixed today..it was a pressure switch...cost $57..working great now

I figured it was a pressure switch. When the AC cut off, your engine would be working less, and cause it to seem like it is revving up, but in all actuality it is just reliving stress.

Glad you got it fixed, hope we helped somwhat.

but I thought I took care of this problem when I took it to the shop. diagnosed as a/c pressure switch was loose. he tightened it and charged me $43. after one week, it's blowing hot air again! should I replace them? if so, does the a/c have to be discharged to replace low side pressure switch? thanks
