I have a 2000 Mercury Villager Minivan, 6 cylinder, automatic.
The past few days there has been a coolant (at least it smells like anti-freeze) leak coming near the hose that goes into the engine. We ran a pressure check and there are no hose leaks. When the car is stopped (and this happens mostly in the morning) white smoke that smells like anti-freeze pours out of the hood. There is no change on my temp. gague and when the car is driving there is no smoke. Any ideas?
Also a few months back the car was dumping coolant from the bottom because of a broken thermostat that we had fixed. This is a different spot, but I wasn't sure if these things were related.
Thanks in advance. You may want to pressure test the cooling system again but this time after it has sat and completely cooled off. Ive seen it may times that even with the slightest bit of temperature in the cooling system and the expansion that goes along with heat will seal up a plastic or an aluminum housings and or their gaskets.
Had this one customer driving me crazy saying that their car was leaking coolant on the floor of their garage. Not much but enough to see a fresh spot on the floor every morning; about the size of a silver dollar.
Every time I tried to find the source of the leak was after it was driven to the shop. Final convinced the customer to leave it with me overnight. Sure enough; the next morning; as soon as I pressurized the system the corner of the rad started to drip where the plastic tank met the aluminum core.
Started the engine and within 5 minutes the leak completely stopped, even with the pressure tester still connected.
Just a thought from past experiences.
