1986 honda air conditioning

hi guys, my wife,s 1986 honda accord air conditiong has a never before seen bugaboo the unit has been retofitted with r134 for two years now with wonderful results. last sunday.. while driving, the air suddenly wasnt quite so cold.... what the .. upon closer inspection, the ac indicator light in the switch was not illuminated nor the rec light in the adjoining switch either. when the ac switch is depressed.. the fans.. and throttle positioning will come on as per normal operation. i have replace the clutch relay with no results. and introduced 12 volts to the compressor. which came on and ran fine with normal cooling output. my somewhat limited haynes manual with it,s somewhat limited wiring diagram . leads me to suspect the ac thermostat or the ac switch itself. is there anyway to test the switch? HELP!.. my wife is threatening to confiscate my 2001 concorde.. and my ability to maintain automotive zen is slowly fading..inch by cubic inch.. thanks... chris Yikes! I highly suggest alldata online repair manuals over your Haynes manuals, and you can get their service from the link below my name. They will have all the test values you need. Replacing the compressor clutch relay was a good guess, could you have a bad or weak compressor clutch assy? when you added 12v to the compressor did the dash lights come on? thanks austin, i observed the dash switches. as i energized the compressor,and they did not come on. i,m searching for a more comprehensive wiring diagram now. i went to the alldata website. and noticed they stated that honda information was not available due to manufacturer,s request. hmmmmm... i would expect that out of peugot,, but honda???????? ... thanks again.....Car Repair Talk's forum.
