I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee with 50,000 miles and have had on and off problems with my A/C and cold air. 2 summers ago i had to have the control panel replaced and this fixed my problem until now. Now it is blowing hot air again, I brought it to my mechanic and he filled up the freon but no cold air. He looked around and the compressor is working, he thinks the door in the dash is not opening/closing correctly so it is not allowing the cold air in. If you turn it up to hot it blasts hot air, turn it down to cold and it blows warm air. He said to fix it you would have to take the dash apart which is gonna be costly as far as labor is concerned, does anyone have any advice on how to fix this without having him tear apart the dash?
edit: I found that the door is actually called the blend door and the actuator for them is located behind the glove box. I opened the glove box and saw the actuator, when I turned the temp to hot I saw the silver part twist until it lined up with a mark then when I put it back to cold I saw it twist back to the original mark. Is it possible the actuator is moving but not controlling the door? you might have a freon leak somewhere... that could result in the hot air. My mechanic just filled the freon why I stood there and there is still hot air Does this happen while driving down the road, sitting or both. You condensor maybe dirty (take a water hose and clean it), the electric condencor fan not working (happened to my 02 Ram). If this does not correct the problem have your mechanic connect a set of gages and find out what the compressor discharge pressure and suction pressure are. If your system was empty of freon before it was recharged and he did not pull a vacuum on it then the system is contaminated with non-condensable gas thus causing it to blow warm air. Yeah, try to clean parts in you A/C and the condenser. If this doesn't work , you really need to put some spaces and check your dash. It really irritates me when I travel without ac, depending on the weather of course. But you need to fix that, maybe it will affect some parts of the car. Try to look at autopartswarehouse.com for parts that needs to be replaced. pocity wrote:Does this happen while driving down the road, sitting or both. Where exactly is the condenser on the Grand Cherokee? Is it right in front of the fan behind the grill? Does this jeep have a heater control valve inline, in either of the heater hoses? How do the low pressure/suction lines feel, out under the hood, with the AC turned on....cold? What's the pressure readings on the high and low sides?
