2006 Chevy Aveo - Airbag light on, Pass Airbag Off light cyc

Hello,

Last night my 2006 Chevy Aveo's red Airbag light came on and stayed on for the 20 minutes I was driving it. During that time, the Passenger Airbag Off light --which is normally on only when there is no passenger in the car-- was on for about 10 minutes, despite the presence of an adult passenger, then went off and on a few times, then stayed off.

According to the manual, with the red Airbag light on, there is danger not only of the Airbag not deploying in the case of an accident, but of it randomly deploying even without an accident. The latter is my major concern. I'll take it in to get repaired tomorrow, but if there is a legit chance the Airbag could suddenly and without warning deploy before I even get to the repair shop, should I have it towed there instead?

Thank you!
Dante I am not going to say it is impossible for an air bag to deploy inadvertently, but when the airbag warning light is on the controller disables the air bag system. So far in my career I haven't seen one go off on its own without some sort of interaction with its circuits due to improper service procedures. I can give you many examples of vehicles that I have seen roll into the shop with airbag/srs lights on and not one of them had deployed.

If you don't feel comfortable driving the vehicle because there could be a remote chance that the air bag might fly out and smack you in the face, you should have it towed.Car Repair Talk's forum.
